Plato's Business Philosophy

    "Customer response to our service*", says Stuart Slaughter of Plato Catering Hire, "is why we’ve expanded so confidently in the last three years." Business growth has prompted a move this Spring to new 2,000 sq.ft. premises in Broom (near Bidford on Avon, UK) with good storage and office space and a showroom to display the plates, glasses, cutlery, linen and furniture available to hire. The family business, under the Plato brand, has developed an envied customer base including hotels, caterers, marquee hire companies and private individuals Worcestershire and into Birmingham.
 
    Sound management underpins Plato’s reputation. Even in a relatively small enterprise, Stuart’s academic and marketing background (Masters Degree in Marketing Strategy) has influenced thinking behind business planning and controls; a multi-strand marketing policy is fundamental to the business whilst sensible use of technology tracks jobs from order, produces picking lists, schedules deliveries and collections and automates the invoicing.

    The cost effectiveness of the Plato service must account in part for its success, their motto "Affordable prices, outstanding customer service" is evident in the cost of hiring and the number of testimonials regularly received.  About £1.25 per head covers the hire of an average dinner party place setting and glassware. However, the business benefits too from a memorable name and a good brand image, consistently used across the website, vehicle livery and workwear. Plus the fact that they wash up!! 

    With longer term plans for extending the trading ‘patch’, a well set-out future for Plato is on the table.
